Empowering Creative Voices: Navigating the Contemporary Art World in 2024
A Free Professional Development Workshop for Artists and Creatives
Zoom / Tuesday, May 21, 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm (PST)
Hosted by L.A. Art Documents’ Curators and Producers:
Join us for an engaging 90-minute online workshop where we discuss various aspects and dynamics of today's contemporary art world and its ever-changing industry from our roles as artists, producers, and curators. We look forward to sharing invaluable insights accumulated over the years from diverse experiences in fine arts, performance art, film and television production, event planning, journalism, teaching, and coaching.

This workshop is about what we wish we had known when we started, what we learned from participating in hundreds of exhibitions (and documenting even more), and aspects of the art world that we feel aren't covered by other sources. We aim to offer participants a greater understanding of a complex industry landscape while encouraging individuals to cultivate experiences from a wide range of other outside perspectives as an important lifelong commitment to artistic development.

Throughout the workshop, we'll explore a range of keystone topics; artist attitudes and approaches to materials and techniques; how the environment of an exhibition affects the experience of artwork; varied operational frameworks of galleries and museums, the politics of how we present and see art, and more. Our workshop will also feature an interactive segment and breakout sessions with exercises to gain insights into your practice moving forward.
