Katie Shanks WILD - Public Art Residency Program

Madrona Marsh Preserve & Nature Center

June 3 – October 1, 2023

Documentation from the exhibition by Katie Shanks, a multidisciplinary fiber artist, resulting from their residency with the Madrona Marsh Preserve & Nature Center. Shanks received their BFA in Drawing and Painting from California State University Long Beach in 2010. Over the years, however, they have enriched their practice by taking scenic byways through millinery, fashion, installation, and performance—embracing the multifaceted nature of the work and constantly pursuing new mediums to best communicate feeling and convey meaning.

During 2023-24 Madrona Marsh Nature Center hosts contemporary artists who will spend one month each creating a work on-site that is inspired by nature within the preserve. The finished work will be on display for the following four months.

This program is made possible through a collaboration between the Torrance Art Museum Advocates, The Friends of Madrona Marsh, and the City of Torrance Art Museum And Nature Center staff.
