Sean Norvet

Neighborhood Watch

Richard Heller Gallery

Bergamot Station Arts Center, Santa Monica, CA

April 5 - May 10, 2025

In this exhibition, Norvet continues to balance surrealism with the mundane reality of everyday life. Through the combination of unlikely elements, the subject matter melds together to create a hypnagogic experience; the transitional state of wakefulness to dreamlike hallucination. From floating cherry skulls to drab motivational office posters, the subjects evolve into a mysterious collection of objects that create their own narrative.

Integral to each painting is the setting where these subjects take place. In this body of work, the settings range from corporate offices to the quiet imperfect suburban neighborhoods of Southern California. The seemingly random artifacts unite and meld with their surroundings, and act as unofficial guardians.

Neighborhood Watch is an exploration into how these environments shape the subjects of Sean's paintings, and begin to play an integral role in shaping the narrative.
