The Other Art Fair

April 4 - 7, 2024

Barker Hangar, Santa Monica, CA

The Other Art Fair was back in town, once again proving to be a must-experience art event and vibrant hub of creative expression. It continues to be a cherished rendezvous where familiar favorites mingle with fresh talents, illuminating the dynamic tapestry of contemporary art.

Distinguished by its commitment to showcasing emerging artists, the fair served as a gateway to the thriving independent art scene. Here, diverse voices from around the globe converge alongside the distinct flavor of local LA talent, offering a kaleidoscopic view of artistic innovation.

Founded by SaatchiArt.com, The Other Art Fair transcends traditional boundaries, inviting attendees on an immersive journey through the forefront of artistic exploration. From avant-garde installations to captivating performances, each edition captivates with its celebration of accessibility and community.

Here are some of the picks that captivated our attention:

Kristine Schomaker, a Los Angeles-based artist, mentor, and curator, showcased her latest iteration of the 'Perceive Me' project, drawing significant attention at The Other Art Fair. Over the past five years, Schomaker has curated a series of exhibitions featuring artworks by more than 60 artists. These portraits, crafted collaboratively with Schomaker as the model, were conceived as a means of protesting societal and art world norms concerning female body size and ideals.

As part of this year's art fair, Schomaker extended an invitation to regular visitors to participate as models in life drawing sessions, while outside the art studio, artworks from previous iterations of the project adorned the walls.

Among the standout pieces at the fair were a striking sculpture by Debbie Korbel and a captivating painting by Tony Pinto.
