Living the Dream

Artist Statement:
I am a sculptor who works with a broad variety of unusual materials to create unconventional, often provocative art—some of which is not for the easily offended. Living the Dream, explores both the surreal and the ironic. The title, Living the Dream, gestures toward the ethereal, dreamlike quality of my sculptures, which often resemble “tangible dreams.” But it also nods to the contradiction inherent in the artist’s life: one that is rarely idyllic, often gritty, and always complex. I build my pieces from reclaimed materials—wood, metal scraps, glass, rubber, bone—things that already come with their own stories and scars. I find these items from thrift stores, friends, junkyards, or even things I find in the street. Assemblage sculpture presents puzzles to the viewer. It invites you to decipher the original purpose of each object—and then to release that knowledge, to see these fragments anew, through a different lens, to see them with “fresh eyes."
