In this video, we take a walk-through of the latest exhibition at Nicodim Gallery in Los Angeles featuring the works of four contemporary artists: Joshua Hagler, Devin B. Johnson, Nicola Samorì, and Hugo Wilson. The gallery's official press release describes how the owner, Mihai Nicodim, is not interested in novelty in contemporary art. Instead, he looks for works that use technique, material, texture, composition, and/or mark-making to confuse him and compel him to contemplate them for extended periods. These artists are some of his favorites, and their works continue to interest him years after he first saw them.
The exhibition features works by Joshua Hagler, who uses graphic design to create powerful and emotive works; Devin B. Johnson, whose work is collected by major institutions around the world; Nicola Samorì, whose work was featured in the Italian Pavilion at the 2015 Venice Biennale; and Hugo Wilson, whose works range from paintings to sculptures and installations.
