Patrick Angus – VOYEUR @ Long Beach Museum of Art

One of several self-portraits by the artist Patrick Angus

May 17-September 28, 2019, the Long Beach Museum of Art presents a large-scale retrospective of the work of American painter Patrick Angus. The expansive exhibition of paintings and works on paper allows intimate insights into the development of Angus’s body of work, revealing a window to his personal life and the New York City gay scene. In 1992, the artist died from complications related to AIDS. Since the first presentation of his work at the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, Germany, Angus’s artistic achievements have gained international attention. This survey of the artist’s work will be the first major museum exhibition in the United States.Thursdays 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

L.A. Art Documents is happy to present this short edit to music of the exhibition. We were also at the museum on May 30th to document a special talk with Q&A given by Robert Patrick Playwright, a good friend whom influenced Angus to paint his series of the Gaiety dancers. Footage from that talk and a future talk in August will be edited together and available online – check back for more details.
